Pioneer Austrian hail insurance

As the market leader for insurance solutions in the agricultural sector, Österreichische Hagelversicherung decided at an early stage to comprehensively renew its software systems, from core applications such as partner, product and portfolio management, to claims recording and processing, through to online services for sales partners and end customers. A heterogeneous IT landscape characterized by media disruptions and high change costs was replaced by an integrated, flexible solution within a short period of time. The itestra team not only re-implemented the existing functionalities, but also implemented numerous new requirements. In addition to product modeling, partner management and inventory management, the newly developed iBISS solution also includes functions for planning and tracking damage surveys by experts. They use an intuitive, offline-capable tablet app that uses GPS data and live satellite images, historical damage data and automated damage calculation to efficiently record damage on site. The recorded data can be processed immediately after collection, enabling compensation to be paid out in the shortest possible time. The modernized architecture enables a significantly higher implementation speed for new technical requirements, process automation and innovative products. Österreichische Hagelversicherung also commissioned itestra to redevelop its online portal, which now offers policyholders, sales partners and experts the full range of digital services and thus contributes significantly to ÖHV’s positioning as an innovation leader in the insurance industry.

Insurance software as a model for success

The iBISS solution also convinced other agricultural insurers. For example, Versicherungskammer Bayern decided to introduce the mobile tablet damage survey including digital deployment planning under the name ELST in its agricultural division. In just a few months and with little adaptation effort, itestra integrated the solution into the Versicherungskammer’s infrastructure, digitized all previously paper-based claims settlement forms and brought the application to production maturity on the planned date.

Thanks to forward-looking project planning on the part of the client, the winter break prior to going live was actively used to give the agricultural experts the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the new software on their own tablets and to practice using it efficiently in specially organized training sessions. These preparatory measures paid off after the introduction with high user satisfaction and low error rates in productive operation. Solutions based on iBISS have now also been successfully introduced at other agricultural insurance companies.

The introduction of ELST has completely digitalized claims processing.
This saves us 40,000 sheets of paper and four to six weeks of working time per claims season. This has significantly accelerated claims processing.
With this solution, VKB can now offer its agricultural customers the fastest claims processing in Germany.
