Customized strategy enables efficient legacy migration
An insurance portfolio system that only manages old contracts but must be kept running for years to come for research and recalculations. A technological platform that drives up operating costs with BS2000, NATURAL, COBOL, Assembler and ADABAS. An expiring leasing contract that forced us to act quickly: the initial situation for this project was full of challenges.
itestra GmbH developed a customized migration strategy for the customer that combined various innovative methods and made it possible to completely shut down the legacy system despite a limited budget. The implementation was carried out as a fixed-price work.
Specially developed tools (transpilers) were used to machine-translate NATURAL and assembler programs and were tailored to the efficient processing of kernel code. Automated tests safeguarded this process. Valuable specialist knowledge was reused as far as possible and manual reprogramming was limited to the absolutely necessary parts.
